Yōkoso! to Japan House London

Yōkoso! Welcome! to Japan House London – the new cultural home of Japan in the UK, that opened last week supported by our extensive launch PR campaign.  This has seen Japan House London covered in all national and leading lifestyle press. Highlights ranged from national opinion articles from the Japanese Ambassador on the importance of Japan House London to stories across national and international media.   

Japan House London, based on High Street Kensington, is a permanent addition to the capital. It provides authentic and surprising encounters with Japan, it’s people, art and design and gastronomy.  It aims to foster a greater understanding of Japan in the UK and to strengthen cultural, social and economic bonds between the two nations. 

Sou Fujimoto: Futures of the Future is the opening exhibition.  Held in collaboration with Tokyo’s Toto Gallery it explores the innovative creations of Sou Fujimoto, one of Japan’s most influential contemporary architects, and presents works previously unseen in the UK before.

One of the highlights of the PR campaign was working with Azuma Makoto, the pioneering flower artist and botanical sculptor to create Flower Messenger. This artistic instillation saw a troupe of 30 Flower Messengers processing from Japan House London to Kensington’s cultural institutions, including the Design Museum, the Natural History Museum, Royal Albert Hall and the Serpentine Gallery. Along the way they greeted passers-by and presented them with flowers. The initiative illustrated the connections being built between Japan House London, leading UK cultural institutions and the British public with the invitation to visit and discover. It received widespread public and media attention.
