Capturing Croydon

Using photography to teach a Sense of Place and help connect children into the regeneration of their town

The Brief

The Whitgift Foundation and Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield appointed Kallaway to engage young people in Croydon’s regeneration and spotlight the development.
How We Built Relevance + Drove Demand

We helped position our clients as valued leaders in community engagement by creating a programme that connected young people to Croydon’s future.

We went beyond the brief to create ‘Capturing Croydon’ – a new an educational programme designed to connect local students with Croydon’s future while supporting the national curriculum.

The initiative enabled schools to elevate their teaching of ‘Sense of Place’ – a key part of the national geography curriculum – connecting students with Croydon’s heritage and regeneration through the medium of photography.

We extended the impact through exhibitions in schools and a public gallery, culminating in an awards event judged by local leaders, media and MPs, creating meaningful engagement with the community.

By demonstrating social value and impact, we helped our client build credibility with local audiences, leaders and decision-makers - strengthening the foundation for future development.

“Capturing Croydon helped children understand their sense of place, and that they are part of the community”.

Sarah Jones, MP for Central Croydon
