Carpenters’ line connects cultures through joinery
The Carpenters’ Line exhibition at Japan House London showcased 1300 years of astonishing and intricate woodworking techniques from Japan’s Hida region that ranged from temples and shrines to contemporary architecture.
For the exhibition we secured features in leading titles such as the Financial Times and Icon magazine as well as other 100 other press stories, all of which helped Japan House London exceed its visitor target by almost 50% and continue to realise its purpose in connecting British audiences with Japan through culture.
We achieved these results via a campaign that carefully communicated the enduring relevance of the delicate yet powerful carpentry skills on display and what they mean for architecture and design today. Curator tours brought these themes to life to journalists and cultural commentators we secured including Sophie Sellu, judge on Channel 4’s Handmade and founder of craft platform Grain & Knot; Jay Blades, presenter of BBC One's The Repair Shop as well as journalists from Monocle, specialist design magazine Hole & Corner and Times Radio, to name a few.
Japan House London’s new exhibition KUMIHIMO: Japanese Silk Braiding runs until 11 June 2023.
