KAMILA SHAMSIE WINS THE WOMEN’S PRIZE FOR FICTION

10 June 2018

Congratulations to Kamila Shamsie for winning the Women’s Prize for Fiction 2018 for her book Home Fire.  Kamila, who has been shortlisted for the Prize three times before, gave a powerful speech in which she said how important and transformational the Prize had been on her life and the culture of reading. (video below).

The 23rd year of the Prize the awards ceremony was celebrated at a glorious outdoor party in Bedford Square Garden, Bloomsbury.  The event brought leading authors and figures from the world of arts, culture and publishing together with Women’s Prize for Fiction sponsors Baileys, Deloitte and NatWest and to celebrate the very best in female writing.

Sarah Sands, The 2018 Chair of Judges, and Editor of the Today Programme, said “It was extremely difficult, because of the richness and variety of the shortlist – imagine how you compare the experience of race in America versus courtesans and mermaids. But when we set out to decide what felt like the story of our times, Home Fire was the right choice.”

We are proud to be continuing our award winning work with the Women’s Prize for Fiction supporting the sponsorship management, events and PR activity for The Prize.
