JAPAN HOUSE LONDON LAUNCHES SUBTLE, A CELEBRATION OF PAPER

13 November 2018

The beauty of paper explored in SUBTLE: Delicate or Infinitesimal closes the year for Japan House London – the new cultural venue from the Government of Japan that aims to deepen our understanding and appreciation of the country.

Kenya Hara, Chief Creative Director for the global Japan House project and man behind the iconic Muji brand, curates and directs the exhibition to explore the influence of Japanese minimalism, inviting visitors to observe each innovative artwork up close and in minute detail.

The works presented are created by 15 leading designers and creators living and working in Japan from across diverse disciplines such as art, animation, architecture, fashion, graphic design and literature. Our favourites include Paper Flowers by Misawa Haruka, a series of delicate paper sharpenings curled to look like brightly coloured flowers.

Our PR campaign drew on this theme and the synergy between beauty, delicacy and design. We illustrated how the country’s paper craft provides a unique encounter with contemporary Japanese culture and its relevance to the design sector globally.

Leading contemporary art and deign titles Monocle, Elephant, Creative Review and It’s Nice That all featured the exhibition.
